By default, Firefox will assume you are not on high speed connection or broadband thus it will use the slowest settings how you reach a web page. However, if you are on broadband or higher internet connection, you can tweak Firefox a bit to fully utilize high speed your connection.
This can be done by enabling network http pipelining. Follow this step.
- Open up Firefox advanced config, type on address bar about:config
- In the filter box, type pipelining so it will only show options in our interest.
- Double click on network.http.pipelining to enable it, see the value on the value column change to true.
- Change network.http.pipelining.maxrequests value to something higher than the default (4). For this setting you really need to change to suit your connection, higher speed connection will benefit with higher value and vice versa, play with it a bit until you get your golden value.
If you want to enable pipelining on proxy, you can change that setting there also. This setting will take effect immediately, you don’t have to restart your browser (this is some of the thing I like about Firefox)
Enjoy your faster browsing
Have you ever wonder if you can use notepad as a logging tools? By logging I mean you can put what ever notes/text and it will automatically set the date and time for you in each session. Believe it or not, our old, plain, and simple default windows notepad can do that.
While I found out this trick is not new but still worth sharing. I bet only 1% or even less people know about that. I have been using computer since Windows 3.1 and I only know this TODAY!
Enough talk crap, here is the step how to make your nearly useless windows notepad a bit useful.
- Open a new blank copy of Windows Notepad. Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Notepad.
- Type .LOG in the first line. Do exactly as that including CAPS.
- Save what have you done in previous step, give it what ever name you want.
- Now open back that file with Notepad and magically time & date automatically inserted into the last line you left.
- Type something below that time & date and save & close it again.
- Open back with Notepad and another latest date & time automatically inserted to the last line.
Cool huh? Here is original issue discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base, How to Use Notepad to Create a Log File.

Example case study
Interesting fact :
You can save that text into whatever extension you want, not only limited to *.txt. You can also save it as .ini, .log, .msc, .dat, .avi or WITHOUT extension at ALL. What the most important is, to open that file only and only with Notepad. No other text processor can understand that .LOG, I have tried it.
Until then. CYA.
If you always open a lot of tabs with Firefox you might noticed that all your tabs have same fixed, width, and when the total tabs width more than Firefox’s main window width, a small arrow will appear on the right side of your tabs pane.
I found out this is very ugly, un efficient and not user friendly. You have to press that small arrow to get your most left or most right tabs, or you have to use the tab list button.
If you had use other tabbed browser such as Maxthon Browser you will be familiar with the default feature you tabs will squeeze to fit all tab un-hidden when you open a lot of tabs. Here is how you enable it on Firefox
- Move your cursor to address bar.
- Type about:config and press enter.
- A new window config window will open.
- Type tab in the filter edit area.
- Now all the options will be filtered to the word contained tab only.
- Look for browser.tabs.tabMinWidth and change whatever its value to 0 That’s mean you tabs now don’t have any minimum width.
- Close the config window and it will automatically save.
You are done… Now try open some blank tab or whatever tab and you will noticed the tabs will squeeze itself to fit main window width.
Enjoy your new more efficient and more user friendly tab !
If you read my previous post GNU Wget, The Ultimate Command-Line Download Tool, you might be noticed that I cant use the word “wget” I cant even use that word here or anywhere. I guess this is just some nasty WordPress bug.
As my previous post it took me more than 2 hours scratching head wondering what wrong that I can’t post to my WordPress powered blog. At first I thought it was Post2Blog, my new blogging tool (I just start using Post2Blog in the past few days) that cause that error, I get error 404 every times I mentioned the word “wget”. Then, I switch to my other blogging tools, BlogDesk (this is my long time favorite blogging tool before I found Post2Blog), The Journal (this is not “pure” blogging tool hence it is named the journal LOL), Ecto and last but not least WordPress build-in web-based write post function. All of them give error 404 page not found!, I repeat ALL OF THEM, even the web-based will redirect me to default WordPress error 404 handling page LOL. So, I guess this might be serious problem.
Here is some screen shot taken.

As you might already know Stage6 by DivX is new rival to video sharing sites such as YouTube, Metacafe and DailyMotion, but what make it different is it’s provide high quality video for playback.
In other word is Stage6 allowed you to upload video in any size and they will display it as it is without compressing or resizing them. The only thing you need to do is install their ActiveX web player to watch or download from their site.
What I am gonna show you is dirty trick how to download their high quality video without installing their ActiveX. Here we go…
- Head up to the video listing section or search for what videos you want.
- Now hover your mouse to over any video of interest and watch the URL at you status bar.

- The highlighted part in above picture is the video id, and that is what you need to download high quality videos from stage6.
- Now we have to reformat the URL and ready to download.
- Right click on the video and copy the link URL
- Now paste the URL “http://stage6.divx.com/Diva-Channel/video/1620273/[PV]-The-Cardigans—Lovefool-(US-Version)” in the address bar of your browser.
- Add “video.” in front of stage6, delete “divx.”, “Diva-Channel/video/” and all the rest after video id
- The outcome URL will be like http://video.stage6.com/1620273
- Enter, and you will be start downloading.
Easy right..? Good luck for your downloading..
Remarks:
- The downfall is you have to rename the video name instead of the video id eg: 1620235.divx
- Don’t forget to put the extension .divx to end of the files you download.
- When you right click to copy the URL choose copy shortcut for Internet Explorer.
- Choose copy link location if you use Firefox
- Copy link address if you use Opera browser.
If you find this post useful… Please leave some comment below, thank you.
Rather than function I think this is kind of bug or something to with direct x which not allowed running video to be screen captured, anyway here’s how to it.
- Fire up Windows Media Player and load any video.
- Hit your print screen button
- Don’t stop video !
- Fire up ms paint. Start -> Run -> Mspaint enter or Start -> All program -> Accessories -> Mspaint
- Go to edit menu -> paste or ctrl + v
- Enjoy your movie/clip
Some facts:
- I tried using Media Player Classic instead of Windows Media Player but it didn’t work
- VLC player give the same result
- Media player classic give nice static screen shot
- Tried using winsnap and SnagIt both give the same result.
- You can paste not only in ms paint but other image editing software too ! I can watch in SnagIt and WinSnap too
- If you stop the video, it will only give black screen.
- I can’t provide screen shot simply because I can’t take it LOL, it give me black screen when I stop the video.
