Can’t Download from Windows Live Gallery?

Anyone have problem downloading from Windows Live Gallery? I just tried to download acronym plugins for Windows Live Writer from there but when I clicked install button nothing happened, weird…

windows-live-gallery

I’m not sure when they got this verification, but I think last time I download there is no such thing there.

I tried with all browser I had, Internet Explorer, Maxthon and Firefox but still failed. In Maxthon and Internet Explorer, I got a couple of JavaScript error notification such as this:

Line:45
Char:1
Code:0
Error:’s’ is undefined
URL:http://gallery.live.com/search.aspx?q=acronym

and this…

Line:193
Char:67
Code:0
Error:Expected ‘;’
URL:http://gallery.live.com/search.aspx?q=acronym

Digging a little bit in the source code (I tried to find the download link actually) showing me this

<button class="default"
onclick="DownloadItem(this,'908829d1-f935-4084-bbe4-5e84afa784dc',14,1,'
wictorwilen','dc606024-0dd6-4761-9af8-1bf25f5e5b1a',0,0,8,
'httpx3ax2fx2fdownload.gallery.start.comx2fd.dll
x2f2x7e14x7e954x7e2273x2fAcronymsWLWPluginSetup.msi');
return false;" id="btnDownload" type="button"><div>Download
</div></button>

I don’t know if this is advanced technique or what but the URL look weird. Not resembling valid URL format, maybe they try to decode, encode, track or whatever.

//s.linkLeaveQueryString=true
s.trackDownloadLinks=true
s.trackExternalLinks=true
s.linkDownloadFileTypes="exe,zip,msi,gadget,cab,btn"
var PageName = 'LC_liveitemdetail';
var m_iMasterLiveItemTypeId ='';;
var m_bDoOmnitureTracking = true;

Did they track every click?

Back to topic, anyone else experience this or only me? I don’t think this is my fault because I can download from anywhere else just fine…

Blog Tool: Post2Blog Troubleshooting

This post is regarding Mark problem with setting up blog tool, Post2Blog. Previously I have written about Wordpress bug? Cant Accept “Wget” Word but it is completely different thing, I can use Post2Blog in normally. I just have problem with Wordpress or my web hosting? which looks like don’t like the word “wget”.

For Mark, this is few things worth check up in case you put it wrong.

  1. Blog Type - It is important to check the right blog, Wordpress in Mark case. If you are using Wordpress prior to 2.1 make you you select Wordpress Old Version because starting from version 2.2 Wordpress has change the way how you post with blog tools. If your blog hosted at Wordpress.com, make sure you select Wordpress.com from there.post2blog-blog-type-setting
    Reference picture, click for full size.
  2. Proxy Setting - Make sure you didn’t mistakenly tick for using proxy, if you are not really using one.post2blog-proxy-setting

I hope this can give Mark a bit hope to use Post2Blog but if you still can’t use post2blog, feel free to contact me again. I am glad to help.

Trouble receiving your Inbox Verification E-mail

Trouble Shooting: If you have trouble receiving your Inbox Verification E-mail, try the following:

  • Wrong Address: Make sure that you have typed in the correct e-mail address.
  • Junk Mail Filter: Make sure that the Verification E-mail did not get filtered into the junk mail folder of your e-mail application.
  • Blocked by ISP: In some cases e-mails may be accidentally blocked by anti-spam technology used by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Contact your ISP and ask them if they are blocking e-mail sent by admin.

“Could not open INSTALL.LOG file” solution

Recently, I have to uninstall 2 programs that I don’t need anymore, IoIsland’s Placesbar Tweaker and Eusing Software’s Fast Folder Access. I just use normal Windows Add or Remove program but interestingly it give me error Could not open INSTALL.LOG file. Thats weird, so tried to uninstall using start menu but it still give me the same error.

I guess maybe the installation was corrupted or the file install.log was missing or it got read only attribute so I open the program install location in program files, the file was there and it is not read only. The file install.log also not empty in-case it lost some installation info. Then I tried to run UNWISE.EXE which is the uninstaller of Wise Installer but still got the same error. I even re-install the program but still not success… WTF Wise Installer.

After fiddle around the files for a while I found out the solution. Here is how you do it without having to manually remove all the files and registry entry.

  • Navigate to program’s installation folder
  • Cut or move the INSTALL.LOG to somewhere else. eg: desktop or my documents. Reminder: Move the file, not copy.
  • Run the uninstaller and it will ask you to locate the INSTALL.LOG file.
  • Select the file you move earlier and voila the crap uninstalled!

Easy right? If you still have problem with it just leave comment below and I’ll try to answer it ;)
