Rather than function I think this is kind of bug or something to with direct x which not allowed running video to be screen captured, anyway here’s how to it.
- Fire up Windows Media Player and load any video.
- Hit your print screen button
- Don’t stop video !
- Fire up ms paint. Start -> Run -> Mspaint enter or Start -> All program -> Accessories -> Mspaint
- Go to edit menu -> paste or ctrl + v
- Enjoy your movie/clip
Some facts:
- I tried using Media Player Classic instead of Windows Media Player but it didn’t work
- VLC player give the same result
- Media player classic give nice static screen shot
- Tried using winsnap and SnagIt both give the same result.
- You can paste not only in ms paint but other image editing software too ! I can watch in SnagIt and WinSnap too
- If you stop the video, it will only give black screen.
- I can’t provide screen shot simply because I can’t take it LOL, it give me black screen when I stop the video.

This is simply because fucking Windows will not let you break copyright laws by taking screenshots of ‘possibly’ copyrighted movie clips.
It is really annoying, because once i filmed my cat and planning to watch the film i made in wmplayer then take a screenshot of one clip of the move and then save it as jpg, but however i tried i only got black screens and no image.
I heard there was a hacked ms paint that allowed one to snapshot from movies. Good luck finding it!
